Satire is a way to show the ideas of the authors that is about ridiculing someone’s foolish, abuses, or personal ideas which is against the authors’ ideas. In a satire, the writers always use irony, comparing, or derision as a way to show out their thoughts, and they want the readers have thoughts after read their words. I don’t really know an example of English satire article, but I know a lot of example in Chinese. I think one the most famous examples is 阿Q正傳 (The True Story of Ah Q) by 鲁迅(Lu, Xun). This is a story about a man named Ah Q. He is a man that has the similar character as Jim. He always thinks things in positive, no matter that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I think the daily show should be a good example of satire. Because in the show, the actors use exaggerative way to show the true life for us, and to let us to think about the lives we have. After watched the shows, we not only got fun from them, but also got some thoughts that we didn’t think about before. I think the meaning of satire is this—we can have fun from it, but at the same time, we also have new ideas or new visions for the life, for the world we are living in.

  1. I agree that the daily show is satire. It’s the only news I trust because I know they’re making jokes. I don’t know the story of Ah Q but if he’s real like Jim then he’s defiantly a good example of satire.

  2. I really like the way you look at it...yeah even though a lot of the stuff is a satire you always learn of few things about something you didn't know before i like how you point that out...and I agree that the daily show is very much a satire..comedy central and south park are also great examples...as well...great response!

  3. Good point about taking from satire not just the fun or the information that people are behaving badly, etc., but include in that a vision for how we might change in the future. Not just the targets of the satire need to change, there are elements of bad behavior and thinking in all of us.

  4. I like your interpretation of satire, how it not just ridiculing somebody but to open up different views and perspectives on people, people's lives and how we can rethink satire in a whole different view or way. sometimes we probably may see people made fun of in a over exaggerated way but in our own response we sometimes can view it in offensive ways too. People out there all have their own perspectives on how satire is used and that can sometimes offend them or entertain them, or even bring about new perspectives for them. All and all we have thinking brains and don't all think the same, but we can think on the same level as other people.

  5. I like how you look at satire. How it can be something that is fun but also something that we can think about and question. Think about change and think about the things the satire is pointing out. I think satire becomes a problem when people can't see if something is a satire or not. I haven't decided if Twain's book is a satire yet. Good post.
